The Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics (BGSMath) is a joint initiative of the Faculty of Matemàtiques of Barcelona University, the Department of Matemàtiques of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Faculty of Statistics i Matemàtiques Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya and the Centre mathematical Research, with the cooperation of the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Barcelona, which aims to bring all offers PhD's in this city.
The Statistics transforms data into information, and it is applied to all areas of life such as in biomedicine, estadísitca helps explain biological phenomena, make predictions and design experiments solid medical.
Today, the ability to obtain and store data is huge and requires professionals who can analyze and interpret them correctly. Statisticians created for Google search algorithms, evaluate the risks assumed by insurers, optimize industrial processes and manage finances and bag.

A group of Japanese scientists have established a mathematical model able to predict the success of a film in the "box office". The data used in the development of the model were advertising costs per day based on 25 films released in Japanese theaters and the "buzz" about the films, taking into account the number of entries and comments on social networks.
